With a low season ahead of us in terms of holidays, TiVo is making a run at marketing its product as a Valentine’s day gift. I’m not sure how successful this will turn out since their main attraction to call this a romantic gift is including a second remote that looks a little more fancy pants. An extra remote seems like it would cause more problems than anything else. I can envision my wife and I sitting on the couch changing the channels on each other with our rival remotes. I like TiVo’s thought though, anything to continue to differentiate from generic DVR.
On another note, I received my e-newsletter and they were promoting using your TiVO for valentine’s day:
“From getting all the romantic movies you can take to playing love songs for your sweetie [through TiVo’s connection to internet radio] to sweet ideas on seducing your friends, lovers, and family to one red-hot offer that includes an additional remote, ’tis the season to fall in love all over again with the amazing TiVo service”
TiVo really is a service as they suggest movies or show to pre-record for that night as well as setting up the surround sound speakers with the free TiVo radio connection. I don’t think this would fly for my Valentine’s day, but it’s a good alternative if you have children at home and are spending the night at home. Besides, my TiVo is already full of sports, 24, Family Guy, Simpsons, The Office,…….my wife doesn’t have much input into the season passes.

I think the Tivo for Valentines day is a great idea! In Sex and the City Miranda called Tivo her ‘boyfriend who didn’t talk back’. I think a lot of single people would go out and buy their own boyfriend/girlfriend who didn’t talk back if the deal was good enough. Great topic!
